Aniline point is an indicator showing degreasing cleaning power, and is a numerical value indicating oil and fat solubility. The lower the aniline point, the better the oil and fat dissolve. It is often used as an indicator to observe the oil and fat solubility of mainly hydrocarbon-based organic solvents. It is the temperature at which the substance and aniline separate when an equal volume of aniline is mixed with the substance under test and cooled.   ## 2. How is Aniline Point Measured? ![How is Aniline Point Measured](https://cleaning.jfe-shoji-ele.co.jp/hs-fs/hubfs/How%20is%20Aniline%20Point%20Measured.png?width=826&height=461&name=How%20is%20Aniline%20Point%20Measured.png) The aniline point measurement method typically uses hydrocarbon-based organic solvents, mixes aniline and the sample, cools them, and measures the temperature at which they separate. Examples of aniline points for hydrocarbon-based organic solvents include: n-hexane at 59°C, cyclohexane at 30.2°C, n-heptane at 69.3°C, benzene at -30°C, toluene at -30°C, white gasoline at 55°C, and kerosene at 78°C. The smaller the numerical value, the higher the oil and fat dissolving power. The reason why lower aniline points mean better oil and fat dissolution is that, generally, substances dissolve more easily at higher liquid temperatures. This is explained through the solubility curve.   ## 3. Disadvantages of Aniline Point -Why It's Not Suitable for Absolute Quantification The disadvantage of aniline point is that it cannot be measured unless aniline and the sample separate during measurement. Therefore, aniline point can only be applied to hydrocarbon-based organic solvents and cannot be used when measuring the degreasing power of other organic solvents or cleaning agents. Additionally, it has been pointed out that in aniline point tests, using substances in which aniline dissolves well tends to result in lower aniline points. What is "KB Value" Representing Degreasing Cleaning Power KB value is taken from the initials of "Kauri butanol." Kauri butanol is a reagent mixed with kauri resin and butanol, and kauri resin is a valuable natural resin. KB Value Measurement Method KB value is measured using kauri butanol solution. The larger the numerical value, the higher the cleaning power, and it is used as a measure of degreasing cleaning power. Typically, the KB values of chlorinated and brominated solvents are higher than those of hydrocarbon-based ones. KB value measurement is performed by dropping kauri butanol solution until it becomes cloudy. Disadvantages of KB Value ｰ Dedicated Solution is Difficult to Obtain However, there is a challenge that KB values become extremely high when measured with specific solvents. Since kauri butanol solution is difficult to obtain, measurement can also be difficult.   ##   7. What is the Difference Between Aniline Point and KB Value? Both aniline point and KB value are indicators for measuring degreasing cleaning power, but aniline point indicates oil and fat solubility, while KB value indicates oil and fat saturation.
